Part 4:
What is the Gospel? {The Great Commission in Matthew, Mark & Luke}

1. Mat. 28:18-20
~ All power is given me, Jesus said.
~ Name is singular – not names.
~ Teach them to observe all things he has commanded.

2. Mk. 16:15-20
~ He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. Not he that believeth and is saved should be baptized.

3. Lk. 24:44-53
~ He opened their understanding that they could understand the sriptures.
~ Remission of sins should be preached in His name beginning at Jerusalem. Will have to go to the book of Acts to see how it was preached.

4. Acts 1:1-8, 15
~ Receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you
~ Verse 15 – tells the number of people waiting for the promise of the Holy Ghost.

5. Acts 2:1-21
~ Received Holy Ghost – spoke in tongues as Spirit gave utterance
~ Not just the 12 – because they are speaking 17 different languages
~ What was that? Peter said that it was spoken of by the prophet Joel.
~ Verses 17-21 – are a quotation of Joel’s prophecy.

6. Acts 2:36-42
~ Commanded them to be baptized in Jesus Name for the remission of sins (Remember Luke 24:47)
~ The promise is to everyone God calls. Why? You must be born of the Spirit.
~ They that gladly received His word were baptized.
~ They continued in the apostles’ doctrine.

7. I Pet. 3:20-21
~ Baptism in Jesus Name was the birth of the water.
~ Baptism doth now save us – Removes sin from conscience.

8. Acts 22:16 ~ The conversion of Paul – be baptized and wash away the sins calling on the name of the Lord (Paul was saved by the same thing Peter preached.)

9. Acts 9: 5, 17-18 ~ Further tells us about conversion of Paul – He received the Holy Ghost as well as being baptized to wash away his sins.

10. Acts 4: 10-12 ~ Must be in Jesus Name.

11. Col. 3: 17 ~ Do all in Jesus Name – This includes baptism.

12. Acts 8: 5-24
~ Healed, joy, demons cast out, yet did not have Holy Ghost.
~ Baptized how? In the name of Jesus Christ.
~ They received the Holy Ghost. Simon offered them money for that power, so there
must have been something outward and miraculous that happened.

13. Acts 8: 35-40 ~ Didn’t say what Phillip preached, but he must have preached baptism or the eunuch wouldn’t have asked to be baptized.

14. Acts 10: 1-6, 33, 43-48
~ Verses 1-6 – devout man, feared God gave alms, prayed always and yet he wasn’t saved.
~ Get Peter, he’ll tell you what you ought to do. Why? Because we have to hear it from a man sent of God.
~ Verses 33 – We want to hear all things commanded you of God.
~ Verses 43-48 – Received Holy Ghost, spoke in tongues, and were commanded to be baptized in the name of the Lord.

15. Acts. 18:24-28 ~ Apollos knew only the baptism of John, but he accepted the rest of the truth when it was presented.

16. Acts 19: 1-6 ~ They ahd believed on the Lord and had been baptized in water. Paul baptized them in Jesus Name and they received the Holy Ghost and spoke with tongues (Birth of water and Spirit).
